On March 16, 2020 – RSL Queensland advised all Sub Branches to cancel ANZAC Day commemorations, including dawn services and marches in an attempt to thwart the spread of coronavirus.
RSL Queensland president Tony Ferris said the move was designed to protect “our older veterans” who are particularly at risk.
“Regardless of the form this year’s ANZAC Day commemorations take, we will always remember the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of our Defence forces, past and present,” Mr Ferris said.
Redlands RSL Sub Branch President Mr Alan Harcourt, General Manager Mr Peter Harrison, and the Management Committee have confirmed the cancellation of the Commemorations at Cleveland, North Stradbroke Island, and Coochiemudlo Island. There will be no Dawn Service, Main Commemorative March, or Main Commemorative Service.
Members of the public are more than welcome to still pay their respects and lay a wreath at the cenotaph any time of the day if they wish.
We are hoping that the public understands and supports this decision.
The Redlands RSL venue will be open from 10am on ANZAC Day.
A reminder though that anyone feeling unwell or is experiencing flu like conditions to please stay at home.
